Bioscop, as the theatrical distribution division of the acquisition company AQS, a.s., has been operating in the Czech market since 2002. It brings films to cinemas from production companies and studios such as Studio Canal, Lakeshore, Timeless, Gaumont, Pathé, XYZ, AGC, EuropaCorp, Lionsgate, IM Global, FilmNation Entertainment, and many others. In 2023, we became the leader in the Czech market for the distribution of foreign independent European films in terms of both paying audiences and box office revenue. In recent years, major distribution successes from Czech productions have included Václav Marhoul’s The Painted Bird (2019), the romantic comedy Příliš osobní známost (2020), the final installment of the winemaking trilogy 3Bobule (2020), and three major releases in 2022 – Tajemství staré bambitky 2 (over 450,000 viewers), Vyšehrad: Fylm (nearly 700,000 viewers), and Medieval (over 350,000 cinema viewers). Between 2022 and 2023, our Czech premieres attracted the highest number of domestic moviegoers. Most of Bioscop's theatrical releases are also distributed in Slovakia in cooperation with Magic Box Slovakia, s.r.o.
